For 40 år siden gikk Knut Terje Solstad av som leder av organisasjonskomiteen og leder av Foreningen Reistadutvalget, og i denne ukens redaksjonelle sak fra Reistadløpsavisa 2021 får vi noen betraktninger fra hans side.

Det er mange år siden Knut Terje Solstad (73) var leder for Reistadløpets organisasjonskomité, Reistadutvalget. Den perioden (1978 – 1981) ser han tilbake på med glede. Nå følger han arbeidet som gjøres gjennom Facebook og instagram.
Et nylig mottatt nyhetsbrev topper etter hans mening det flotte informasjonsarbeidet han ser gjøres. – At det sendes ut på både norsk og engelsk viser jo den internasjonale arenaen Bardu og Målselv har blitt for toppidrett gjennom Reistadløpet, mener han.
Det var som Brigadens idrettsoffiser Solstad fikk vervet som leder i utvalget.
– Kommandosystemet fungerte godt på den tiden, humrer han. Nå kjente han godt til skiløypene i området fra tiden som idrettsoffiser i Heggelia garnison. – William Engseth og Guttorm Berntsen på Bardufosstun var gode samarbeidspartnere, og vi delte på innsatsen for å få gode spor fram til Kampenhytta så tidlig det lot seg gjøre. Når Reistadløpet nærmet seg ble det litt mer trykk og nerve rundt løypestandarden, minnes Solstad.
Som leder ble han involvert i flere ting enn arbeidet med løypene. – Det var en fin måte å få kontakt med det sivile samfunn på. Både Bardu IL, BOIF og Kampen IL hadde jo viktige oppgaver under arrangementet. Herulf Berntsen hadde jeg hørt om fra før og nå fikk jeg treffe ham i utvalget, sier Solstad. Herulf sitt navn skulle han også se igjen da han et av årene måtte tre inn som sekretær nesten over natten. Utarbeidelse av startlister og startkort var et møysommelig arbeid, og uten EDB på den tid. – Da fikk jeg også god oversikt over gjengangere i løpet – som nettopp Herulf – lærte navn på småplasser deltakerne kom fra og fikk en klar opplevelse av at Reistadløpet betød mye for mange. Erfaringen fra denne hendelsen gjorde også at vi «ansatte» en fast sekretær med nå avdøde Andreas Fossland, som gjorde en utmerket jobb i utvalget, husker Solstad.
Han synes det er hyggelig at deltakerrekorden i Reistadløpet fra 1979 fortsatt står, men mener samtidig at de som i dag er involvert i arrangementet fortjener rekordmange deltakere. Samtidig erfarte også han at oppslutningen på selve dagen er litt væravhengig.
-2019-årets TV-sending med panoramabilder fra det beste av Norge, med de beste på startstreken, er jo noe man som arrangør ønsker seg. I min tid var vi kry hvis vi fikk Jan Lindvall til å stå på startlisten. Og media var for oss en prat med Rønning Tollefsen på lokalsendingen, noen dager før løpet, avslutter Solstad. THE BEST MARKETING FOR THE AREA
Many years ago, Knut Terje Solstad (73), was the chairman of the Reistadutvalget (1978 – 1981), the organizing committee for the Reistadløpet at the time. This is a period in his life that he looks back on with pleasure. Facebook and Instagram now make it possible for him to still follow the work being done.
He thinks that the newsletter he received recently, is a very good example of the excellent information work that is being done by the organizers. “A newsletter both in Norwegian and English is proof of the international position of the Reistadløpet” he thinks. The Reistadløpet has always co-operated well with the Army and Solstad got his post as chairman of the board through his work as the sports officer of the brigade.
“The system worked well in those days” he chuckles. “I knew the tracks very well and William Engseth and Guttorm Berntsen at Bardufosstun, were good partners and we worked together to make sure the tracks from Bardufoss to Kampenhytta were as good as possible as early as possible. When the date for the Reistadløpet got nearer, we put even more effort into the grooming of the tracks to keep the participants satisfied”, Solstad recollects.
As chairman of the board, Solstad was involved in more things than the grooming of the tracks. “This gave me the opportunity to get in contact with the civilian society. The three sports-clubs, Bardu IL, BOIF and IL Kampen, contributed greatly during the arrangement. I had already heard about Herulf Berntsen (the man who has the record number of participations in the Reistadløpet – 53 times) and now I got the opportunity to actually meet him, he was also a member of the board”, Solstad says.
One of the years when Solstad was the chairman of the board, he also had to take on the task of being the race-secretary. This work consisted in, among other things, to write out the start lists and a card for every participant. As this was before the age of computers, you had to do everything by hand, a very laborious work.
“But it gave me the opportunity to get to know the names of the participants, especially those who had skied the Reistadløpet many times such as Herulf and to learn the names of the many small places where the participants came from. I then really understood how important the Reistadløpet is for many of the participants. My experience at being the race-secretary also led to the board “hiring” a permanent race – secretary, Andreas Fossland, who did an excellent job on the board”, Solstad remembers.
Solstad thinks that it is nice that the record number of participants which is from 1979, still stands but his opinion is that the people arranging this race, deserve a record number of participants. However, in his experience, the number of participants actually starting in the race, depends a bit on the weather on the race day.
“2019 year’s race-broadcast on TV with panoramic views of some of the best scenery in Norway and all the best skiers on the starting-line, is what any organizer wishes for. In my time, we were proud if Jan Lindvall was to be found at the starting – line. And for us, our contact with the media, was a chat with the local reporter, Rønning Tollefsen, of the NRK a few days before the race” Solstad finishes. The times they are a changing.
